Karen Izod, CQSW, MA (City)
As an Executive Coach, Consultant and Educator working in the context of organisational change, Karen works with executives, leaders and stakeholders who need to innovate, generate conditions for change, or help their staff find ways of responding to complex developments in their working lives. This involves her in:
- clarifying and developing leadership capabilities in relation to changing societal and organisational conditions
- organisational design and managing interfaces between business strategy, organisational structures, and people in resourceful, creative activity
- facilitating working practices which require collaboration and alliance building, for instance across global business structures, and ventures involving multiple stakeholders
Karen's approach to her work is highly participative, and informed by expertise in group and organisational dynamics, and contemporary organisational theories. Karen specialises in leadership issues, particularly where individuals manage complex delivery agendas, and work across organisational and sector boundaries. She provides individual coaching, process consultancy to working groups or systems experiencing conflict, and delivers educational programmes which enable organisations to research their particular organisational dilemmas and create change.
Karen Izod has been an Associate of the Tavistock Institute since 1998, working primarily in its Professional Development activities. Roles include:
- Co-Director, Coaching for Leadership and Professional Development, a certificated programme for those in roles responsible for developing others
- Course Director, Coaching Skills for Political Leaders, a bespoke training programme run for the Leadership Centre, Local Government
- Co-Director, The Tavistock Institute of Human Relations' Practitioner Certificate in Consulting and Change, a certificated programme those looking to develop their consulting and change management practices and shape their presence.
She has coached leaders, managers and professionals across a wide range of sectors including, government and politics, health and social care, broadcasting, banking, higher education, industry and commerce, and regularly advises on the setting up and evaluation of coaching initiatives.
Together with Sue Whittle, she has recently edited ‘Mind-ful Consulting’ a collection of stories from the field of consulting, told by members of the AOCS society
