Coaching

Karen Izod, CQSW, MA (City)

As an Executive Coach, Consultant and Educator working in the context of organisational change, Karen works with executives, leaders and stakeholders who need to innovate, generate conditions for change, or help their staff find ways of responding to complex developments in their working lives. This involves her in:

  • clarifying and developing leadership capabilities in relation to changing societal and organisational conditions
  • organisational design and managing interfaces between business strategy, organisational structures, and people in resourceful, creative activity
  • facilitating working practices which require collaboration and alliance building, for instance across global business structures, and ventures involving multiple stakeholders

Karen’s approach to her work is highly participative, and informed by expertise in group and organisational dynamics, and contemporary organisational theories. Karen specialises in leadership issues, particularly where individuals manage complex delivery agendas, and work across organisational and sector boundaries. She provides individual coaching, process consultancy to working groups or systems experiencing conflict, and delivers educational programmes which enable organisations to research their particular organisational dilemmas and create change.

Karen Izod has been an Associate of the Tavistock Institute since 1998. Her coaching clients have come from government, commerce, industry and professional service firms. Recent and current pieces of work include:

  • the design and delivery of a bespoke programme in coaching political leaders for the Leadership Centre for Local Government
  • designing and implementing an evaluation of an initiative to introduce executive coaching in NHS Wales
  • consulting to a secure mental health provision, to help generate their strategic direction
