Director, P3C
Karen Izod, CQSW, MA
I am a consultant, coaching practitioner, and educator working in the field of organisational change. I have been an Associate of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations (TIHR) since 1998.
At the TIHR, I design and deliver educational events and programmes within its professional development activities. These include:
- Directing the Practitioner Certificate in Consulting in Change (P3C), a co-constructed programme for those intervening in and orchestrating change.
- Directing a training in coaching skills for political leaders, designed as a bespoke programme for the Leadership Centre, Local Government, with the intention of enhancing political leadership capabilities at local level.
My approach draws on experiences, encounters and insights gained with clients and colleagues, theories and models for change that I am attracted to, and a mind-ful alertness to the moment, the pragmatic and the possible. I use experiential methodologies as a means of exploring, and reconfiguring key issues for individuals and organisations, and help to generate new perspectives through creative and performing media.
I continue to be concerned with market, social and psychological conditions which enable individuals and enterprises to work to best effect. This often involves creating structures and processes to sustain initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, or systems working with shared social and corporate responsibilities.
Sectors that I work in include knowledge and media, banking and professional service firms, industry, higher education, politics and government and health and social care.
In my background lies a substantial career in Local Authority Social Care, including service design, general management and internal consultancy; a period in small business ownership and 20 years in independent consulting at national and international level. I have an advanced training in clinical social work from the Tavistock Clinic, and an MA in Advanced Organisational Consultation, from the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations/ City University.
I co-founded and co-directed the Certificate in Coaching for Leadership and Professional Development (a certificated programme for those involved in developing others) for its first five years since 2007.
Together with Sue Whittle, I have edited Mind-ful Consulting a collection of stories from the field of consulting.
