Researcher / Consultant
Olivia Joyner, BSc, MSc
I joined the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations (TIHR) in March 2009 as a Researcher/ Consultant in Research Methods and Evaluation. I am a confident researcher and evaluator with experience of project management, presenting, Theory of Change, Action Research (Action learning Sets), interviewing, aiding programme recruitment, facilitating focus groups, designing research tools, creating reports and analysing qualitative (Nvivo) and quantitative (STATA, SPSS) data.
Since joining the TIHR I have worked on a wide range of impact and process evaluations. For example, I undertook a case study on Ireland's School Completion Programme for the European Social Fund and Open Method of Coordination EU Commission study (DG Employment). Currently, I am coordinating the Evaluation of Local Road Safety with AECOM (DfT), which along with other projects (Child Poverty Pilots, DfE and the Assessment of Web Based Patient and Service User Feedback for Quality Improvement in the NHS, Health Foundation funded) uses Theory of Change.
I have a strong interest in social inclusion, children and young people, families and health and I draw on my past work as a Research and Policy Assistant, helping to identify best practice in the implementation of child literacy activities in disadvantaged schools, as outlined in Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools (Irish government policy) as well as on my work at the Geary Institute, University College Dublin, on the RCT evaluation of an Early Childhood Intervention (included Triple P) aiming to improve children's school readiness.
I am a proactive team player, writing for the Institute 's E-Bulletin as well as representing the Institute in other contexts for example being a member of the Social Research Association's Events Committee.
I hold a MSc in Social Legal Studies and a BSc in Sociology from the University of Bristol.
