Our apprenticeship programme is coming into its fifth year and we are looking for the next person to join our team.

At the TIHR we understand it is difficult for young people to enter the world of research and consultancy prior to gaining qualifications at undergraduate level. We set up the apprenticeship scheme in 2012 for school leavers who are yet undecided about university and want to gain experience in the field of social science. Our programme is constantly evolving with each apprentice, as they influence the shape of both the programme and the role. Whilst working at the TIHR the apprentice will work alongside colleagues from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience which will offer an opportunity to develop their interests and skills.

The TIHR is a social science research and evaluation organisation with the core purpose of improving society. The range of tasks, clients and sectors we engage with is wide which makes it difficult to sum up the organisation in one sentence, but means there is always something new and interesting going on if you want to get involved. This is a place where there is plenty of opportunity to get involved whether in research projects; or helping out with day to day activities such as reception cover and administrative responsibilities.

As part of their training the apprentice will also have the opportunity to join a suitable course with a social science focus which will help to introduce the sector. The programme allows time to study a range of different topics, e.g. psychology, politics and international studies, economics and sociology which are all prevalent within the organisation.

We are committed to our apprentices and offer a wide range of support to ensure they are getting the most out of their workplace experience. We have apprenticeship evaluation meetings every six weeks where we discus and evaluate the progress of the apprenticeship programme and think about ways to innovate.

This apprenticeship programme usually runs over two years and will be available from July 2017. The salary is in line with national living wage. We are looking for likeminded individuals who have an interest in working somewhere “outside the norm”.

If this role interests you, a full job description can be found here.

For further information, or if you have general enquiries please contact Hannah Walsh.

If you would like to apply please send your CV and covering letter explaining your interest in the role to Hannah Walsh.
