Head of Finance and Operations

Finance is often feared by those of a non-financial background — strange terms, various rules, lots of figures with complex calculations and an array of graphs. My aim is to demystify and disentangle the world of financial management for my colleagues — to make better decisions in their projects and programmes, ultimately enabling prosperity in the wider organisation.

My journey started off in public office before moving to Air Traffic Services in a strategic planning role. It gave me a flavour of the significance of finance management which I further developed in roles within the banking sector. The allure of the aviation sector led me to Heathrow Airport, which enhanced my expertise in both revenue and capital financials. This provided the springboard to join an urban regeneration organisation in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympic games where I advised the diverse development team on all financial aspects of their regeneration projects. In 2014 I heard the call of the Institute to become Head of Finance. I now oversee the management of all the Institute’s financial and operational matters, wearing several hats whilst spinning many plates and balancing on a seesaw — finance management can be tricky!
