Phil James is an experienced Chief Executive and Board Member with a keen interest in organisational processes and change.

Phil is currently Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and has built a career with various professional and awarding bodies including the Chartered Institute of Building, British Association of Social Workers and Institute of Leadership & Management. His Board experience includes previous Trusteeships across a number of charities and became a Trustee of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in the summer of 2020.

Phil has an MSc in Corporate Direction and recently completed the Doctor of Management programme at the University of Hertfordshire, where his research followed a complex responsive processes perspective on organisational life and a critical approach to mainstream management thinking. Phil aims to further his interest in contemporary thinking about group dynamics in organisations, whilst contributing from his experience as Chief Executive and Trustee elsewhere.
