We are excited to announce that a new batch of materials has now been fully catalogued and is available to browse online and request for viewing through the archive catalogue. The catalogue can be accessed through the Tavistock project blog: https://tavarchive.modernactivity.com/the-archive/

Since October 2015, the archive of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations has been undergoing a transformation. The cataloguing of the extensive and varied materials for preservation and access has been at the heart of this, and the extent of materials available for consultation is steadily increasing day on day.

Each new release of materials reveals more and more about the work of the Tavistock Institute and the people behind its projects, as well as providing an insight into the broader society and culture in which the Institute operates.

This new release brings material in the catalogue into the 1980s and highlights include:

  • Evaluation of the Lighthouse Project a high profile centre for those affected by HIV and AIDS. SA/TIH/B/2/131
  • The Children Leaving Care project was a research project looking into the experiences of adolescents primarily between the ages of 16 and 19 leaving care in England and Wales and evaluating special projects set up to make the transition less problematic.  SA/TIH/B/2/88
  • Human Elements in Shipping Casualties Project. The project sought to highlight the interactions between human elements in shipping casualties and the environmental and technical factors involved.  SA/TIH/B/2/84

The Tavistock Institute’s collection was ranked the 9th most consulted archive at the Wellcome Library, according to data collected between 2013 – 2018.

NB: Statistics not been weighted to consider the number of researchers consulting the collection / the size of the collection, etc.
