Exploring Desire and Fear in a Divided World

Co-sponsored by The Tavistock Institute of Human Relations
Endorsed by The A.K. Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems

Our experience of organisations has two primary layers – one that we think we see and know, and another that is hidden out of awareness yet driving much of our activity. The ability to exercise leadership, utilise authority, mobilise roles and make decisions that further progress is significantly impacted by dynamics that are unconsciously held within groups. Then, when people seem different from us, work becomes even more complicated. Ultimately, we have less conscious awareness and control than we would like to believe.

Examining dynamics beneath the surface and learning how they take shape in organisations can lead to the discovery of uncharted possibility for improved functionality and success across various dimensions. Yet the opportunity to examine and understand the nature of organisational life, what we import into it and our collective influence on it, is rare or non-existent.

This conference is your opportunity to do that work. Working together over five days we will create a temporary institution to help you improve your understanding of leadership, authority and identity in the context of organisations and social systems.

Candice Crawford-Zakian
Conference Director 2019

Previous participant, Matthew Randazzo, President & CEO of the Dallas Foundation said “Hands down, this was the best (and toughest!) professional learning I’ve experienced as a senior leader.

And Robin Ely, Diane Doerge Wilson Professor of Business Administration, Harvard Business School said: “The conference is an extraordinary opportunity to tune into a frequency of group and organizational life that is always operating but virtually never accessible.

The conference takes place at The Connors Center, Dover MA, USA
