Dr Joe Cullen is Principal Associate of the Tavistock Institute and was previously its Academic Dean.

As a senior member of the Tavistock Institute staff, Dr Cullen has extensive experience in developing and applying innovative research, consultancy and evaluation approaches and methods, working with international organisations (WHO, European Commission) Government Departments (for example, in the UK, Department of Health, Department for Education and Skills, Home Office, Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills) NGO’s and commercial organisations. Dr Cullen’s evaluation work encompasses evaluation frameworks (for example he has recently developed an evaluation Framework for ‘Science and Society’ initiatives for DIUS); process reviews; impact assessment; longitudinal evaluations; developmental and participatory evaluations and action research.

Examples of applied evaluation work include informal learning; social inclusion policies and Programmes; e-inclusion; e-health; offending; substance misuse. Prior to joining the Tavistock Institute, Dr Cullen enjoyed an extensive research and teaching career in academic institutions including the University of Cambridge, Loughborough University, Leeds Metropolitan University, the Open University and the University of North London. This included teaching in social sciences and research methods.

He also spent some time as a freelance consultant, working for major international companies and public agencies.
